Monrovia Canyon Park - Sharp-shinned Hawk

(Accipiter striatus)

A Sharp-shinned Hawk feeding on a freshly caught bird. This migratory hawk is not as common as it's look-alike cousin, the Cooper's Hawk. This hawk was seen in the backyard of a home in Saugus but they are sometimes seen in and around the park. They have a very distinctive staccato call. Click on the photo for more info.
