June, 1999: Here I am at the summit of 10,834 foot Mt. San Jacinto for the first time. Phew, was I bushed! The view from up here is pretty spectacular with visibility in some directions more than 60 miles!

May 18, 2008: At the summit again with my neighbor, Jose Munoz, sitting behind me. This was Jose's first time on this hike.

Note: There seems to be some discrepancy as to the actual elevation of Mt. San Jacinto. There is a USGS Benchmark medallion attached to the large boulder in front of this sign but, as you can see, the boulder we are sitting on is a bit higher than that. Topo maps show the elevation of the mountain as 10,804 ft, as did my GPS unit, when I stood on the Benchmark. I believe the 10,834 ft elevation is at the point where Jose is sitting.
