Here I'm standing among the Deer Park Cabin ruins. This is the only part of the cabin that remains standing today.
For all you Geocachers out there, I have hidden a cache (#GC2CHXB) somewhere amongst these ruins. Click here for more info about it.

This is the historical plaque your will find at the end of the Ben Overturff Trail just as you approach the site of the former Deer Park Cabin lodge.

The lodge was a popular weekend get-away for the city dwellers from approximately 1911-1945, when Mr. Overturff had to abandon it due to his declining health. The U.S. Forest Service demolished the cabin in the early 1970s to end unauthorized use. Many artifacts still remain to be enjoyed by the hearty hikers who climb this 6.5 mile (RT), moderately rated trail with its 1700 foot net elevation gain.

This is a photo of Mr. Ben Overturff, his wife, Bertha, their pets and his trusty 30/30 rifle, taken at his Deer Park Cabin Lodge.

You may see this little guy or one of his cousins climbing around the rubble at the Deer Park cabin site. In the Spring, if you approach slowly, they will give you the challenge signal by doing "pushups", their way telling you, "Hey, this is my territory!"

This is a corral, made out of old riveted water pipes, that you will find on the trail that goes beyond the cabin ruins.
